How Dr. Katz Started Treating Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Dr. Katz began treating both snoring and sleep apnea at the request of patients who needed help. In 1982, one of his patients requested an oral appliance to treat heavy snoring. At that time, there was very little available in the way of custom orthotics for the treatment of snoring. Despite this, Dr. Katz built this patient a custom-designed oral appliance from scratch to relieve his snoring problem. Thankfully, the science of dental orthotics has come a long way since then, and we now have several options for using dental appliances to treat both snoring and mild to moderate cases of sleep apnea.

Dr. Katz got involved in treating sleep apnea in 2011 in order to meet the needs of another one of his patients. The patient’s mother came to Dr. Katz asking for help because her son was suffering from Cerebral Palsy and he was having trouble keeping his CPAP machine from falling off. Dr. Katz was new to the field of sleep apnea, so he did a great deal of research and began taking continuing education courses on the subject. Dr. Katz also joined the American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine at that time.

Over the years, Dr. Katz has developed considerable expertise in treating sleep apnea and snoring. He’s tremendously heartened by the positive responses he gets from patients when he helps them solve their problems. That’s the reason he became a dentist in the first place.
